Submissions sought for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2017 Event Licence

20th February 2017

Ennis is honoured to host Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann for the second year but an event of this scale is a significant organisational and administrative challenge. A licence to manage the largest national traditional music event for 2017 in Clare is required from the local authority. It is subject to conditions that relate to the safety of people, health and welfare, protection of the environment and litter control as well as transport, public liability and communications.

The Fleadh 2017 Committee is currently advancing plans for the hosting of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Ennis from 13th to 21st August 2017. Preparatory meetings have taken place between the organisers and Clare County Council, An Garda Siochána, Fire Service, HSE and Civil Defence.  The Fleadh Executive Committee expects to formally lodge an Event Licence application with the Planning Authority in mid-March 2017.

Frank Whelan, Chairman of the Fleadh Executive Committee, expressed the organisation’s full commitment to delivering the event in the safest possible manner. ‘The issues of good organisation, traffic management and health and safety are our top priorities while at the same time we want to maintain the spirit of fun and enjoyment that marks Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann as a most unique traditional music event,’ he said.

At this point, the Fleadh Committee seeks input from any parties who may have a proposal in conjunction with the Fleadh or independent of the Fleadh which would impact on the overall operation and management of Fleadh 2017.  It is important that there is an awareness of any such proposals well in advance, as significant traffic management and crowd management proposals will necessarily form part of the Event Licence application.
